Surgery or Hemorrhoidectomy

Surgery or hemorrhoidectomy is done with either local anesthetic combined with sedation or a general or spinal anesthetic. It used to require an overnight hospital stay, though now it can be done as day surgery with you going home the same day.

During the operation, incisions are made in the tissue surrounding the hemorrhoid. The blood supply is tied off and the hemorrhoid is cut away.

Recovery from this procedure usually takes 2-3 weeks

Pain, bleeding, and a temporary inability to urinate (urinary retention) are the most common side effects of hemorrhoidectomy.
